There is always a time between novels for me. A point in which one is as far as I can get it at that point, but I’m left wondering what is next. It can be like staring into a dark room and waiting for a glimmer of a light to turn on just so you know where you’re headed.
I’m not one of those authors that has a ton of ideas sitting around and waiting to be written so once one book is finished, I can’t help but wonder what is next. Have I tapped the end of my creative streak? Over the course of years, I’ve gotten a slew of story ideas in other genres, which makes me wonder am I writing in the right genre. What if all these story ideas are because my brain is trying to tell me that I’m in the wrong genre?
For a long time that was a course of serious doubts for me. However, it takes my brain some time to transition from one book so I’m free to think of the next. Malevolent Mind will be headed to the editor later this week or beginning of next so now was the time to really focus on another.
While I am working on compiling a fantasy novel I know it is still a ways out of being written down. I’d figured on that as fantasy has a lot more development than my horror novels necessarily need. Still, I need to fill in that gap. While my brain is still working on characters, worldbuilding and different races I couldn’t help but feel like I wasn’t getting enough work done.
I wanted to be writing, getting words down on the page, but I know better than to rush novels as well. Well, yesterday my brain came up with a new horror novel. It is an interesting concept and one I’m seriously trying to work out into a plot. I’m sure it’ll get there. The only question is when. In the meantime, I shall continue to get the fantasy novel details down and ready to go. It’ll be a race to see which one is ready first.
Now, those are the times I enjoy being an author the most.
Until then, remember to L.O.L. (Live it, Own it, Love it) or it isn’t worth doing.
