Journal, Handwriting, and Me

Hello, Readers!

October was the last time this was updated and not late October, but rather early in the month. Wow. It always comes as such a shock that I don’t upkeep my blog as well as I should. I mean, my life is busy, but it isn’t that busy. It is more a matter of building up habits, which is something I’ve been working on lately.

Building up habits take weeks of repetition before it goes into your automatic part of your brain. I can usually do the thing for a week and a half. After that, I end up having a wrench thrown in and forget for a few days, which causes me to have to repeat it all over for a few weeks.

I’ve started to journal in the mornings. Nothing big, but a way to track my thoughts while I’m writing and keep a few things about my life in it as well. After a while, I’ve found it to be a great benefit. It has been less of a dump of all things negative and it is shifting to a way to track things in my life that I would like to remember.

Now that I’ve done that solidly for a few weeks I’m ready to add to my habits. I know my daily writing is another great one to add because I’ve been terrible to sit down to write every day. In fact, I can go several days between writing and only get down a paragraph or two at a time. While I am still moving forward it isn’t at a pace that I’m near happy with.

Especially as I absolutely love this novel I’m working on. The flow of the narrative is coming so naturally to me and I truly believe I have gotten even better at writing than I was with Malevolent Mind, which as creatives…we are always striving for. I can’t wait until I get a chance to share it with all of you.

There is also keeping up here and writing a blog post every day. I could really use to work on making this a daily habit or, at least, something I write on a few times a week. I’m not sure if I can think of something to write every day and still remain entertaining. Yet, there are so many things that I could share here about my journey that may find its way into helping another author or creative find their way. Not to mention discussions about books I’m reading and my thoughts about them, which could be great.

I need to sit down and make a schedule out for the things I want to include here and on what days as well. Now that I’ve written those words, I think that is the first thing that I shall accomplish as well. As my daughter and grandbabies are settled, she is home to attend to their needs, now it is time to pick the pieces of my life back up and get back to work.

Until next time, L.O.L. (Live it, Own it, Love it) or it isn’t worth doing.

  1. If you’re journaling, you ARE writing every day – which is a huge accomplishment. If a daily blog post is too much to manage right now, maybe shoot for a weekly update? That way it doesn’t become too overwhelming and you can devote those few extra minutes to the novel you love (which I can’t wait to read, by the way!). My goal for the New Year is to establish some reasonable routines. I haven’t been in a routine with blogging, writing, or anything over the past few years. If I dwell on the past too much, I start feeling down on myself, so I’m declaring that 2018 is going to be the start of something new for me. I hope it’s the start of something new and phenomenal for you too!

    1. Thank you, Tricia. That is a good point. I am writing every day. I missed one weekend at the very beginning due to it being girls baking, but I’ve been on top of it ever since. So, yes, in that aspect I do write every day. One to two pages of simply mentally checking myself to gauge my depression and mental state of mind. It’s helped immensely with my anxiety as well, which I wasn’t so sure that it would. For that, I will be grateful for.
I would love for 2018 to be a year of something new as well. Possibly my best year yet. That is my aim – or at least a better year for my writing than this one, though I did release Malevolent Mind early this year.

Good luck to you and your writing as well. We will continue to support each other through it all. 🙂

  2. I’m the same way I think I want to pick three days maybe 4 to blog I need to get my schedule. Keep up the good work!
