Deep Thinking Decision

Hello, Readers!

It has been a long time since I’ve written a blog post, and just as long since I even logged onto here. I truly thought I was going to quit writing altogether and in turn, wouldn’t need my blog any longer. If you’ve followed this blog for any time you know that my life has been chaotic since my oldest daughter got a job and I started watching her children.

We struggled for quite some time to get a schedule that worked for both of us. One where I could still get my writing done and where she could get her work done. It became even more difficult when school started up. She had college courses on top of work and needed more help so my writing took a backseat to all of that.

At this point, I really did pack things up. I was going to be done with writing, there just didn’t seem to be enough time for me to pursue my goals and help my daughter put her life back in order. I tried hard to be okay with that but there were stories that I wanted to tell, needed to tell and they kept calling me back.

So between all of us here in Casa Harvey, we got things worked out to where she could still do her things and I could still do my work. That was the point when I put my nose to the grindstone and got things done.

I was writing 5k most days to get The Opseti Guard finished before September. There were days I wondered if I’d made the right decision but thanks to the Hubby Man I kept pushing on. Needless to say, at the end of August, The Opseti Guard first draft was completed.

We had FanX the first weekend of September so I took the time off to get us packed and get things in order for the house and girls while we were gone for the weekend. Once we returned it was business as usual and the Hubby Man and I started the read through and first round edits on the book.

Now, Opseti Guard is off with beta readers to make sure that flow is right and everything makes sense. Once that is finished and I correct anything they may find it’ll be off with the editor. During this time, I already have the cover finished and ready to go, which I’m super excited about and will be doing a cover release for soon.

I was also asked to participate in a charity Christmas anthology for breast cancer and accepted it. So, I had a flash fiction of 1,000 words to get written before the end of this month as well. I can say that I finished writing it and going over it today and once I gather up my author information I will have it sent over.

As my daughter works tomorrow morning and then has a night class right after I probably won’t get a chance to do much work. I might be able to get some done once they go to sleep for the night. At that point, I will begin compiling everything and working on the plot for book two for the Treaty of Dragons Series, which will be the follow-up book to The Opseti Guard.

With luck, the second book will release earlier in 2019 and the third will release later that year. That is my hopes, to release two novels a year from now on.

Until next time, remember discipline is key to reaching goals.

  1. Wow, I’m so proud of you for all you’ve accomplished. I watch my grandson (not nearly as much as you watch your grandchildren) and it really is challenging. With little ones, they need undivided attention, so you can squeeze in any writing while they’re on your watch. I think you’re right when you say self-discipline is key. I’m proud of you for getting where you are today!

    1. Thank you so much. It is so difficult and you definitely can’t write at the same time when they are so little. It means a lot of really early mornings and late nights to hit my word counts but so worth it. I feel so proud of myself when I push through all the excuses and not wanting to do it to reach my goals. 🙂 It is so worth it.

  2. I am so proud of you! I can’t wait to read the book! I understand as I’ve almost quit myself. I too am on grandma duty and I respect the authors that write and raise a family
