Hello, Readers! Happy Thursday.
As most of you know I have talked about working with a looser outline. I have been overcome with the feeling of stifled creativity with my old outline. While, I still need plot markers along the way, I’m trying to find the right amount to work with. So, I did some research and found a new plotting method that is a lot more loose.
By all accounts, I can still use my old to do so and may revert back to that one when it comes to my fantasy, but I thought I’d give this one a go for fun. It certainly fit the aspect of having layers within a book that I love so much. That being said, I sat down yesterday and worked on getting the plot points filled out.
I won’t lie, that was a serious struggle for me as I wanted to put every detail down, not only that the large chunks that were missing between them really pushed me to develop a book not so tightly. That small act of using that plot also sent my mind in this explosive overactive state. As I worked on that scenes popped into my head and my brain was working out things between them that I didn’t even need to write down.
That is the amazing feeling that I have been searching for. I had lost that over the last few years with trying to be too rigorous with my outlines. While I need the guide to keep me from going completely off track, room to explore things is definitely a benefit.
Some of you might be wondering what is going on with my fantasy series. I haven’t given up working on that as well. I’m brainstorming and compiling things ready to go for that outline, but it isn’t quite ready to be worked, so I’m taking some time to stretch my wings a bit with something new. Come mid-January I should be ready to dig back into the Treaty of Dragon series.
If it turns out that the book is ready to go sooner than anticipated then I will work up the plot line for that as well. Depending on how this method of plotting works for me will decide which way I work it out.
So far, I can say that I managed to not only sit and get the points down, but I was so overcome with excitement to write that I sat down and worked on the first chapter as well. It was so much fun and I’m actually chomping at the bit to dig in and work again today.
There is no dark cloud hanging over my head or grudgingly sitting down to the computer to work. I’m actually excited for it, and that is what I’ve needed for a very long time. That has been what I’ve been searching for. A sensation of being excited to work.
The true test on if this method will work for the long haul is if after the newness wears off, if I still enjoy doing it. Often times, I find I get super excited for a new way of working, but like puppies, once that newness wears off I fall right back into the usual slump.
I have plenty of free time for the next few weeks baring my kiddo’s birthdays, but for the most part there is enough time that I will be able to get a decent amount of work done. After that point, the schedule gets a little tighter. Still, I look forward to the challenge as always.
Tell me, do you sometimes need to take a step back and find new and better ways to accomplish things within your life?
Until next time, remember to L.O.L. (Live it, Own it, Love it) or it isn’t worth doing.
