Changing A Routine

Hello, Readers! Welcome back to my blog.

I have been doing a lot of thought as I’m getting ready to dive into book three. Well, okay, in all seriousness I was supposed to start the month writing book three but it became to difficult for me to balance reading through a novel and writing at the same time so I did the read through first and then I was getting ready to settle into writing book three.

Yesterday, for my amazing first day in book three, Blood Magic, I wrote 0 words. While I started the day with working up a weekly goal for myself. I spent the day watching Youtube videos and thinking…I really should get to work.

That was my entire day. If any of you have followed my blog long enough you will know this is a common theme for my life up until August of last year. During that time I finally decided I had enough and I was going to finish writing The Opseti Guard, that took me until September. In October, I did the read through for that novel and got it off to betas.

After that, I decided that I would write book two Poisonous Revenge in November for NaNoWriMo. Now, I should have done the read through mid-December. However, with the busy time of the year, holidays, parties and such I let my writing fall to the back burner instead of continuing on.

It caused me to throw my schedule out the window and slide back into old habits. I quit working out, meditating and my happiness took a hard hit. I wasn’t sleeping well. My days felt overwhelming and unfocused. That was really hard for me and that same way of living continued on at the beginning of January, no matter what goals and such I set for myself.

It didn’t take me but a few days to realize that schedule certainly wasn’t going to work if I want to make my lofty goals. So, I reorganized. To reach my goals, I needed to bring my healthy habits back into my life. I needed to focus back in on my days and the things I wish to accomplish.

That means I have to cut out a great deal of distractions and push other things to the front. It’s never easy to fight against such a habit, but it is so worth it. I have amazing things in the works that I want to share with everyone, but none of that is going to work if I don’t keep my priorities straight.

Meditating for me is a part of that. It allows me to reconnect with myself, do a check in to make sure I’m balanced and mentally more stable. I’ve found the days I don’t meditate I’m so much more scattered than I am if I do. If you aren’t someone that meditates I highly recommend it. I simply use a guided meditation from Youtube for ten minutes to cleanse my brain in the morning before work.
