As some of you know, I’m participating in Camp Nano. It is where we take a month as a writer and make our work more of a priority. My goal this month was to write 50,000 words by the end of April.
That would put most of book three completed by the end of this month. However, I have to admit this last week I fell behind big time. I really struggled to get back on track and yesterday when I had the time to catch up I found myself fighting it.
Yes, there are times I always fight it, but something felt really off with this book. I stopped writing and I took the rest of yesterday and beginning of today to really think about it. I knew something was amiss.
At first, I really thought it was simply a disconnect with a character. Which, it turns out isn’t entirely wrong. I am not only disconnected with the character, but I was trying to force him into the plot instead of working the plot around him.
I’ve taken some time this morning to really reconnect with the character and get back on track. I know there is some reworking to do, but in the end, it will make the book that much stronger and add a lot more flavor.
Also, I just finished up round two of edits on Poisonous Revenge and have that back to the editor as well. As well as it is moving along I believe that it will release much sooner than I originally anticipated and we could see it out as early as the second week in May.
While another teardown and rebuild of book three is frustrating in a lot of ways, I have to follow my instincts. I don’t want to release a book that I’m simply not happy with. The new concept behind the book is so much stronger and I think that it gives you a better idea of who Teagan is as a character.
Now, I need to put in the work and get it sorted once more. With a lot of work, I will get back on track for Camp Nano. While that isn’t my main focus, telling an amazing story is, it would be nice to win it once.
Until next time, remember to L.O.L. (Live it, Own it, Love it).
