I really struggle to come up with topics every day. While I may miss some days I do try to write more topics then the days I miss.
Lately, has been a struggle of trying to figure out that if writing is for me, why do I struggle so hard to sit down and do the work?
Ah, this is an old and familiar topic for me. It really does have some basic answers too. While it seems rather complicated the simple answer is I’m spending too much time in my head.
Writing is hard work. If it wasn’t more people would do it. However, I can sit here and analyze things and try to sort things. The truth of the matter is that none of that matters. Where my problem actually occurs in the doing, the action part of things.
You can’t think your way out of things. All you can do is sit down and do the work. That is why there is the acronym when it comes to writing of B.I.C.H.O.K. which means, butt in chair, hands on keyboard.
The biggest resolution for situations that you put too much thought into is action. You can’t think your way out of these type of problems. You have to work your way through them.
So, the real question becomes, why do I struggle to sit down and do the work? Because I don’t make myself. It’s so much easier to say, I don’t have time. Things aren’t working out. I’m too busy. The house needs cleaning. There are a thousand and one things I place before writing.
The truth of the matter is, if I simply sat down and worked for an hour even two a day, I’d be so much better off then not working at all. Every day you sit down and do this, doesn’t matter how many words you get, just matters that you make a consistent habit. As the habit builds and grows stronger, you will find on most days you write more than you thought you would. You just have to put in the B.I.C.H.O.K. time.
In the end the only way to handle a problem like this is through action. I have to work my way through it. It is about being in my heart with action and not in my head with thought. Passion and heart before head and overthinking. That is what I need to remember.
Good luck to all the NaNoWriMo participants as they get ready for the journey. I hope to see some of you there. If you’d like to friend up and support one another my NaNoWriMo page is MistyHarvey.
