Hello, Readers!

We live in a world of so many distractions. I’m sure most of you have heard that saying. In fact, some have even noticed it. Especially now, during a time when so many people are working from home. It can make it really hard to focus on the things that you need to get done, when the world is created to optimize distracting you.

Even shopping at a store is designed for such things. That is why there are signs that say Sale, Clearance, or the like. It attracts your attention from whatever it was you went there to get. So, you rush over to check these things out. Now they have distracted you from what you came for and it just continues to spiral from there.

One of the problems with all of this distraction, besides the sheer amount of money you spend on things you don’t necessarily need, is that it causes you to not pay attention to yourself. Due to all of these things like social media, video deliverance apps, and game systems, we simply don’t take the time as a society to reconnect with ourselves.

We don’t unplug from all the noise and really figure out what it is we want or even need in life. All of these flashy, noisy things, drain our energy. In turn, it makes it so we don’t want to spend time sorting things out. We can worry about that later, we can think about that later…oh look, a sale on a tool. Do you need the tool? Who cares it is on sale. Look, it even says twenty percent discount.

I am guilty for that. Especially emotional shopping. It is the one way I’ve used to distract myself or make me feel better. If I don’t think a particular part of my life is going the way I want, instead of taking the time to disconnect and really sort it out, I jump on Amazon and buy a cart load worth of things. When they arrive, I love them for a few moments, but they don’t fill in that ache that caused the problem to begin with. Instead of doing what needs done, I get distracted with some new fangled idea in my head and there I go on a shopping spree again.

I cannot tell you the amount of things I have purchased to make myself feel better, because it was on sale, or simply to avoid disconnecting and really figuring out a problem I have with my own life. It is a horrible cycle that I have been working hard to break.

Anyway, I digress. I recommend you take time, fifteen minutes a day if that is all you can spare to reconnect with yourself. No distractions, no phone. Just sit and really sense how you are feeling.

Instead of sweeping everything under the rug. Take the time to really poke around to see if you can come up with why it is that way, then come up with a plan to fix it. Remember, action is a key part. However, don’t feel like you have to rush into fixing it either. Take some time to really think it over before you emotionally decide on a plan.
